Alia’s Tips: How to Make Berry Compote!
- 1 pound (450 grams) of mixed cherries and strawberries
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 star anise + 2 cardamom pods
- 1/4 cup water
1- First, cut the cherries and strawberries. Discard any stems and pits.
Place the cherries and strawberries in a saucepan, add 2 tablespoons of sugar, 2 star anise and 2 cardamom pods. You can omit the anise and cardamom pods or you can replace them with a cinnamon stick, a vanilla bean, orange peels, or any other flavoring of your choice.
2- Add ¼ cup of water, mix well, cover you pan, and cook the cherries and strawberries on medium heat for around 10 minutes.
3- Strir the fruits from time to time.
4- After 10 minutes, the fruits will become soft and you will notice a syrupy liquid in the sauce pan.
1- Remove the star anise and cardamom from the fruits. Put the fruits, without the liquid, in a cup and mix using a handmixwer or any type of food processor you have. Mix until you get a smooth texture.
2- Place the mixture in small cups, let it cool down, then place the cups in the fridge for at least one hour before serving.
3- And what do we do with the delicious berry syrup we got? First let it cool down in the fridge, then you can use it to make drinks: either mix it with a cup of fresh orange juice, oh yum!!!, you can mix it with sparkling water or anything else you want!
