Ingredients :

  • 4 golden apples (you can also use Fuji or Gala apples)
  • 5 tablespoons (70 grams) softened butter
  • 1/3 cup (73 grams) brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • A pinch of ground cloves
  • The zest of 1 orange
  • 1/3 cup of chopped walnuts
  • 1 small lemon

Directions :

Step 1: Making the Butter Filling
1- Make sure that the butter is softened otherwise it will be difficult to mix it with the rest of the ingredients.
2- In a bowl, using a fork, mix the butter and brown sugar.
3- Add the cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and the zest of 1 orange and continue mixing until you get a smooth texture.
4- Add the chopped walnuts and continue mixing.

Step 2: Preparing the Apples
1- Using a pairing knife or apple corer, remove the core of the apple without makig a whole at the bottom of the apple. Make sure that the whole is a wide enough to be able to stuff it with the butter mixture.
2- Run the knife (in a think cut) around the apple at the center. This way, when the apple bakes, the skin does not explode.
3- Cut the bottom of the apple (thinly) so that the apple can ‘stand’ on it’s bottom, otherwise it would roll.

Step 3: Final Steps
1- Preheat your oven to 375 F degrees (190 C).
2- Place the apples in a baking pan and squeeze some lemon juice on the apples.
3- Fill the apples with the butter mixture, then top them with the rest of the butter mixture.
4- Bake the apples for 45-50 minutes. The more you bake them the softer they become.
5- Serve the apples immediately, still hot, with vanilla ice cream!
Bon Appetit!
