Ingredients :

  • Chewy caramel candies (8.4 oz / 240 grams)
  • 3 medium-sized apples (pink ladies, granny smith, or other apples of your choice.
  • 4 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • Dark chocolate
  • Toppings (slices almonds, chocolate confetti, crushed cookies, etc.)
  • Wooden skewers
  • Bonus Walnut Caramel Candies: leftover caramel sauce + walnut halves

Directions :

Preparing the Ingredients
1- The first step is to melt the caramel. Unwrap the chewy caramel candies and place them in a bowl. Place the bowl over a pot half-filled with boiling water, and continue heat on medium heat. The caramels will melt after around 10 minutes.
2- While the caramel is melting, wash the apples. Place the apples in a large bowl filled with cold water, and srub them well. Then use a towel to wipe them. Srub well to remove the wax that covers the apples so that the caramel sticks better on them.
3- Take the wooden sticks (large skewers or popsicle sticks) and insert them in the bottom of each apple.
4- When the caramel starts melting (it becomes more liquid), add the heavy cream. Mix well. The reason we add the heavy cream is for the caramel to stay chewy when it hardens on the apples otherwise it would become hard.
Dipping the Apples in Caramel
1- Now the fun part! on your working table, keep the caramel on top of the boiling water pot so it stays soft and liquid while you are dipping the apples.
2- Dip each apples in the caramel. Roll the apple around to get the excess of the caramel off.
3- At this point , if you only want the caramel no chocolate, you can dip the apples on nuts (sliced almonds or walnuts for example) or any other topping.
4- Place the apples on a plate covered with wax paper.
5- Place the apple in the fridge (or freezer) for the caramel to set.
Dipping the Apples in Chocolate
1- Place dark chocolate (or other types of chocolate) in a bowl and melt using the microwave. Melt in 30 seconds shots while stirring in between so the chocolate does not burn.
2- Remove the caramel apples from the fridge and dip them in the melted chocolate. Roll for excess chocolate to drip.
3- You can dip the apples in nuts or chocolate confettis or any other topping.
4- Place the apples in a plate coved with parchment paper and place in the fridge for a few hours before serving.
Bonus candy: Walnut Caramel Candies
1- If you have leftover caramel sauce, pour in it nuts (for example walnut) and mix well.
2- Using two spoons, place small amounts of the walnut-caramel mixture on a plate covered with wax paper.
3- Place in the fridge for a few hours before serving.
And voila – beautiful walnut caramel candies!!!

Bon Appetit!
