152 – Indian Spiced Chai / Tea Masala Recipe

Ingredients :

Chai Masala:

  • 4 tbsp green cardamom (powder)
  • 2 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1 tsp anise powder
  • 1/2 tsp ginger powder
  • 1/2 tsp pepper (ground)
  • ¼ tsp cloves powder

Spiced Tea:

  • 2 tablespoons of chai masala
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon loose black tea

Directions :

Making the Chai Masala:
1- Mix all the Chai Masala spices together and store them in a canister.

Making the Spiced Tea:
1- Pour 1 cup of water  and 2 tablespoons of the chai masala in a saucepan.Place it on the stove, and let the water mixture cook until it starts boiling.
2- when the water is boiling, add 2 cups of milk and 3 tablespoons of sugar. Continue cooking until the milk start boiling. Turn off the heat.
3- Add 1 tablespoon of loose black tea leaves to the milk/water mixtures and let it brew for 3 minutes. It you let it sit too long, the Chai will get too strong.
4- Strain the tea twice (important!) to get rid of all the spices and tea residues. Serve immediately!
