Alia’s Tips: How to Make “Fromage Blanc”
- 1 box of low fat buttermilk
1- Place the buttermilk box in the freezer overnight. The next day, take it out from the freezer and cut the box using scissors. You will end up with a block of frozen buttermilk!
2- Cut off the buttermlik box and using a sharp knife, slice the frozen buttermilk into large chunks.
3- Place a large sieve over a bowl and place the frozen buttermilk chunks in the sieve. Cover with plastic wrap and let the frozen buttermilk melt overnight on the kitchen counter. The next day, you will find the magical “Fromage Blanc” in the sieve, while the liquid from the buttermilk dripped into the bowl.
4- Place the “Fromage Blanc” in an airtight container. It can be preserves in the fridge for up to 1 week.
5- You can eat Fromage Blanc as a dessert: by adding some sugar or honey, and serve it with fresh fruit. Or you can serve it as a savory appetizers with crackers, by mixing it with salt and drizzling some olive oil on top.
