Ingredients :

  • Puff Pastry (you can purchase from the frozen section)
  • Apples
  • Egg Wash: 1 egg + a little bit of water
  • Sugar and cinnamon
  • Butter
  • Glaze: apricot jam or Honey + Orange Blossom water.

Directions :

Step 1: Ingredients
1- One of the main ingredients in this recipe is puff pastry. It is like a magic ingredient, I alway have a couple of rolls in my freezer. Just buy from the store and keep them, anytime you need a quick recipe you could use the puff pastry!

Step 2: Rolling the Puffs
1- Roll the puff pastry to get a medium thickness square of puff pastry. Roll the pastry directly on your baking pan covered with parchment paper.
2- using a fork, poke holes all over the puff pastry.
3- Peel the apples and cut them in half. If you have an apple corer, you can core the apples before cutting them in half. Otherwise, cut them in a half and use a small knife to remove the core (but keep the half apple whole).
4- Preheat your oven to 400 F / 200 C.
5- Thinly slice the apples, while keeping the slices together to still have the shape of a half apple.
6- Place the half apple slices over the puff pastry and gently push the slices down so you get a long row of thin apple slices.
7- Using a cookie cutter, cut the pastry around the apple, so that the pastry takes the shape of the apple.
8- continue doing so until you finish the apple slices and the puff pastry.
9- Remove the puff pastry that has not been used around the cut pastries.

Step 3: Baking the Puffs
1- Preheat your oven to 400 F / 200 C.
2- Brush the sides of the pastries with an egg wash (egg + a little bit of water) to get a beautiful golden brown color at the edges.
3- Sprinkle sugar and ground cinnamon on top of the apples. Also, add small pieces of butter that you place on top of the apples.
4- For variation, you can add apple sauce on top of the puff pastry before placing the apple slices.
5- Place the puff pastries in the freezer for 5 minutes before baking them.
6- Bake for around 20-30 minutes or until the pastry becomes puffed and has a deep golden color.
7- Brush the apples with a little bit of honey mixed with orange blossom water (microwaved for a few seconds) or with apricot jam.

Serve warm or cold. Bon Appetit!
