317 – Savory Cake Recipe / الكيكة المالحة

Ingredients :

  • 1 1/2 cup (200 grams) all-purpose white flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup (10 cl) milk
  • 1/2 cup (10 cl) vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh basil
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup grated cheese + cream cheese cut into small pieces
  • 1 cup sliced olives (black and green)
  • Any fillings of your choice!

Directions :

Step 1: Making the Batter
1- Place the flour in a large bowl. Add baking powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
2- Add the eggs – we need 3  – and mix them with the flour using a whisk.
3- When you can not mix anymore – add the milk. Now things will get easier!
4- then add the vegetable oil, and mix, mix, mix… at one point you’ll have to switch to a spatula as the batter becomes too thick for a whisk!
5- The fun part starts now – adding the fillings of your choice. Get creative!!! For today I have some chopped fresh basil, ….grated cheese, ….cream cheese cut into small pieces, ….. sliced olives both black and green,… and chopped walnuts for a little crunch. I know, I am going all the way!

Step 2: Baking the Cake
1- Prepare your baking pan. First butter the pan so that the parchment paper sticks on it, then butter the parchment paper. Place this amazing cake batter in the pan. Even the top of the cake with the spatula. And that’s it…
2- Bake in a preheated oven at 360 F / 180 C for around 50 minutes or until done.
3- You know the cake is ready as it has this beautiful golden color, and when you gently touch the center it feels firm.
4- Remove the cake from the pan, remove the parchment paper… and serve… check this out… melting cheese, crunchy walnut, citrucy olives… oh YUM!!!!
